Healthcare Information and Training
The Staff Development and Training Department at Northeast Florida State Hospital offers a wide variety of training to both the hospital staff and the community. The training available for the community is listed below. All of the courses listed are $20.00 per student per class. To inquire in detail about a specific course, to see if there is space available in a class, or to register, contact the Staff Development and Training Department at 904-259-6211 Ext. 1205.
Courses can be held off campus with prior approval by the Director of Staff Development and Training. These off-campus courses will be based on special needs and the number of people who will be in attendance. The minimum number of people required to have a class off campus is 10.

Healthcare Provider
This is a course designed by the American Heart Association to provide the required training to; doctors and nurses, EMT's and Paramedics, Firefighters and Law Enforcement personnel for recertification. This course is also accepted for students who are trying to gain access to the nursing programs through the community colleges. If you have had this course and are still current in your training (no greater than 25 months) you can take the Renewal class (3.5 hours). If you have not had this course or you are out of compliance greater than 25 months you will need to take the complete course (5 hours). This course requires the student to be on the floor performing the skills required to keep someone alive with Chest Compressions and Ventilations.
Heartsaver Plus
This course is designed for the lay public and it is a general overview of CPR showing only the basics of Adult CPR. We also teach a Pediatric, course that is acceptable for Child/Infant Day Care Centers for certification. Both of these courses are typically 3.5 hours in length. This course requires the student to be on the floor performing the skills required to keep someone alive with Chest Compressions and Ventilations.
First Aid
This course is a 2 hour course in the basics of first aid. It is designed to give you the care you need to provide for the first 5 to 10 minutes until EMS (ambulance) arrives to render care. This course is also accepted for Child/Infant Day Care Centers for certification. Cardiac Arrest and Stroke is covered in CPR above. Topics include: scene safety, mechanism of injury, bleeding and controlling bleeding, fractures and splinting, burns, anaphylactic reaction, seizures, diabetes, heat and cold emergencies, etc..
Infection Control
This is a basic class that meets the requirements established by the federal and state governments based on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. This is a 2 hour class where the class spends time reviewing videos and discussing the various problems associated with Infection Control.
Mandt
This is a course that takes 12 hours to complete for first time students. Verbal Intervention and Physical Intervention are covered during this course. Students will be required to perform skills required to break away from grabs or holds through verbal intervention first and only to use physical intervention as a last measure to protect yourself. The last 4 hours of this course is a hands on physical activity in which each student will have to perform the instructed skills demonstrated by the instructors. You will have to have special permission to attend this course by the Director of the Department of Staff Development and Training. Additional Training
The hospital can also provide outside students with classes in the following areas: HIPAA, Ethics, Cultural Diversity, ADA, Sexual Harassment, Safety, Customer Service, and Stress Management.
